Jay Almers: Graphic Artist | Web Designer Jay Almers: Graphic Artist | Web Designer
As a web designer and graphic artist, it is very easy for me to express myself in a visual way. I feel that my work tells a lot about me; my personality, my point of view, my experiences. Being a visual person, I find that it is very difficult for me to talk about myself without sounding dull or even self absorbed. With that being said, this is my attempt to provide you with a little insight into my life and what has brought me to where I am today.

My wife and IAs a child, my artistic abilities and talents were nurtured by two incredibly talented parents. My mother, a painter, taught me that art was about emotion. My father, a carpenter, taught me that art was about creation. Over time, I realized art was about whatever you made of it. My family was, and continues to be, a very important part in my future as a designer. Without their support and patience, I would not be where I am today and I could not achieve my goals for the future. To them, I am eternally grateful.

In addition to my love of art, the only other thing that really interested me were computers. I was one of the fortunate kids that, for the most part, grew up with a computer in the house. I was fascinated by their speed and level of interactivity that far surpassed that of my Atari and Nintendo game systems. As I got older, computers continued to evolve. I eventually learned how to take my artistic talents from simple sketches in a spiral notebook to an actual portfolio of digital media. My high school embraced this ever-changing technology and began offering curriculums centered around it. I started designing websites at the age of 14 when the first HTML class was offered. I was immediately hooked though I never thought I could make a career out of it.

Time went by and website design and development began to move from a simple hobby to a full-blown career. My first break into the world of professional website development was with Aventis CropScience. Eventually, Bayer Corporation would purchase Aventis and it would be my time to move on. Rather than viewing this as a negative situation, I used the experiences that I gained to move into a more specialized direction. I began working as the Senior Web Developer for a local web hosting company called American Data Technology. While there, I was responsible for the creation and maintenance of the company websites as well as designing websites for our customers. After a couple years, my desire for advancement and personal growth lead me to where I am today. I am currently (and have been for the past 3 years) the Senior Web Developer and graphic artist for a wholesale ISP called NeoNova Network Services. For over 6 years, I have continued to build on the knowledge and experiences I have gained in this great field.
